ARTIST OF THE CITY

TIM ETCHELLS

Tim Etchells, a British artist and the artistic director of the performance group Forced Entertainment, is the artist invited to take part in the second edition of the Artist of the City biennial, which once again brings together a range of  leading organizations.

After its first edition, in 2012, which involved a year of fruitful and intense work centred on the work of the Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Alkantara Festival, the British Council, Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa, Centro Cultural de Belém, Culturgest, EGEAC, Festival Temps d’Images, the Maria Matos Municipal Theatre and the São Luiz Municipal Theatre have once again joined forces, in 2014, to form a collaborative network that will bring a broad range of Tim Etchells’ work to Lisbon – a varied sample of his work, ranging from the performing arts to the visual arts and fiction, making use of different media and contexts in a constant search for new ideas, possibilities and paths, new perspectives. It is a work that has its own individual stamp, but which is also connected to Forced Entertainment, the collective that is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year.

Operating in the city, the main aim of the Artist of the City biennial is to give Lisbon audiences the chance to discover, in a broad and multiple ways, the work of important contemporary artists, establishing unique relationships, new paths and new alternatives in the landscape and its curatorial dynamics.
